Hutu Revolution
(Classification) (nov 1, 1959 – jun 27, 1962)
Description:
Ethnic violence between the Hutu and Tutsis.
During the Hutu Revolution, the country was transformed from a Belgian colony with a Tutsi monarchy to an independent Hutu-dominated republic during the revolution.
The Hutu had a revolution against the Tutsi monarchy and the Belgian government as they were tired of the discrimination and mistreatment they were receiving from the government.
Tutsis wanted to remain in power because they felt that they were still superior to the Hutus.
At the end of the revolution the Belgian government had pulled out of Rwanda after the Hutus had regained control of the country.
