Description:

The two cities in Japan where the atomic bombs by the U.S. landed in causes massive destruction and causing the Japanese to surrender. End of WWII.

(This was significant for many reasons: Japanese do not like to surrender and would rather die than lose to surrender, but the devastation of the atomic bombs resulted in the surrender. Inaddition, this was the first time the U.S. used atomic bombs on a nations [These atomic bombs were just recently made and testes].
