Norman Invasion of Ireland (may 1, 1169 – may 1, 1177)
Description:
Backed by Henry, Cambro-Norman merceneries invade lands held by the Irish. War tootles on till October 1171 when Henry lands a force and subdues both the Irish and Merceneries. After he left the others continue fighting over unconquered territory. In 1177 Prince John is appointed Lord of Ireland, and all lands conquered by the Normans come under his rule, essentially part of the Angevin Empire. War and unrest continues for the next 800 years as the Irish rebel against their English and then British rulers. The situation has never been fully resolved.
