The political bosses began to see how access to power was moving away from them while Rojas Pinilla exercised greater control and a heavy hand. With all this and the resurgence of violence, the military asked Rojas to hand over power in 1957. With pressure from various sectors, a Military Junta was called, chaired by General Gabriel París, who called elections that same year.
