Berlin Crisis
1958-1961 (nov 1, 1958 – jan 1, 1961)
Description:
Began when the Soviet Premier delivered a speech that demanded that Western powers pull their forces out of West Berlin. The Soviet Union cut off all land access between West Germany and West Berlin, leading to constant airlifts. It led to conflict between the Soviet Union and the U.S. because West Berlin represented capitalism. This would lead to the building of the Berlin Wall.
