Trail of Tears (jan 14, 1830 – jan 4, 1850)

Description:

The Trail of Tears was the forced removal of Native Americans from the southeastern U.S. to Indian Territory west of the Mississippi. The U.S. Congress and President Andrew Jackson promoted the Indian Removal Act of 1830 which allowed the purchase of Indian land in the southeast and removal of the Indian tribes to Indian Territory. An estimated 70,000 Indians were forced to move the average distance of 5,000 miles.
