French and Indo China war
December 19, 1946 to August 1, 1954 (dec 19, 1946 – aug 1, 1954)
Description:
War between the Viet Minh and French colonial forces to control colonies in Vietnam. The first Indochina war led to a stalemate. The Viet Minh were communists and the French had aid from the U.S.. Despite having aid from the U.S., the Viet Minh were able to defeat the French and the French left their colonies in Indochina.
This would lead to the Geneva Accords being signed and also lead up to the Vietnam War.
