Korean War (jan 11, 1950 – jan 1, 1953)
Description:
The Korean War began when communist North Korea invaded South Korea. The United States quickly defended South Korea. President Harry S. Truman sent land, air, and sea forces to Korea for what he called a “police action.” This caused the intervention of communist Chinese forces that caused a bloody stalemate. In 1953, the U.S. and North Korea signed a cease-fire.
