Description:

Louis XIII worked with Richelieu to make France an international power. Cardinal Richelieu became the first minister of French on behalf of Louis XIII. He strengthened royal control and viewed Huguenots as potential rebels. His biggest goal was to secure French pre-eminence among Euro powers, achieved by weakening the Habsburgs. He sided with Protestant powers so he could support the Habsburgs' enemies like Sweden during the Thirty Years’ War.
