Spanish Hapsburg - Holy Roman Empire (jan 1, 1525 – jan 1, 1556)

Description:

This Italian War of 1536-38 over Milan and Northern Italy occurred upon the death of Francesco II Sforza and the end of his line. There was no significant territorial change, and Milan remained in the hands of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V, having been promised to him, with Spain gaining signifiant control over Italy. In 1556 Charles V abdicated in favor of his son Philip II and his brother Ferdinand I, and his Italian possession, including Milan, passed to Philip II and remained with the Spanish line of Hapsburgs.
