r. Frederick William (the Great Elector) (jan 1, 1640 – jan 1, 1688)

Description:

Frederick William (“Great Elector”) wanted to unify Brandenberg, Prussia, and scattered territories along the Rhine (the first two were ruled by Junkers: landowning class and nobility). He persuaded Junkers to accept taxation in turn for reconfirmation of their privileges. Estates’ power declined. William had tripled state revenue and expanded army. His son, Frederick I was titled king of Prussia
