War of the Straits (jan 1, 1350 – jan 1, 1355)
Description:
Third of four Genoese wars against Venice, caused when Genoa captures Chios and Phocaea and Byzantines lose control of Bosphorus straits, making it more difficult for Veneitians to reach Asian ports. Venice ally with Aragon and Byzantines, and Genoa submits to Milan for financial support. The capture of the Venetian fleet leads to peace and Genoa is freed from Milan.
