Bubastite Portal Gate (jan 1, 945 BC – jan 1, 924 BC)
Description:
Shoshenq I built the Bubastite Portal Gate from 945 - 924 BCE at the temple Karnak. It is located in the precinct of Amun-Re temple between the temple of Ramesses III and the second pylon. Shoshenq I was an Egyptian ruler that descended from a line of Libyan tribal sheikhs. The portal outlined his rulership of Egypt as well as his conquests and military campaigns of other cities. Thebes, at the time, was still a religious capital, so the use of Karnak as a place to show political prowess was justified for Shoshenq I. Even though he was an Egyptian ruler, we can see that he is not native Egyptian, following the common theme of foreign rulers of Thebes in this time period.
