Marcus Aemilius Scaurus (dec 31, 163 BC – jan 1, 89 BC)

Description:

One of the most illustrious representatives of the senatorial aristocracy , he was the most influential defender of the requests of the Senate during the attempts of revolution by Lucio Apuleio Saturnino in 100 BC and the appropriation of the courts by the equestrian order around the year 90 BC .; proud exponent of the optimates , he supported the political program of the tribune of the plebs Marco Livio Drusus in 91 BC

He led a campaign against the Gallic people of the Carni , reporting a success and celebrating a triumph ( de Galleis Karneis ) and subjugated the Ligurian Taurisci ; during the campaign he imposed such strict discipline on his army that a tree full of fruit near the camp was not touched and the fruits remained where they were the day the camp was built.
