Period 4: New Nation’s Growing Pains 1783 - 1800 (jan 1, 1783 – jan 1, 1800)
Description:
Enduring Understanding: The process of creating the founding documents was defined by compromise as the founders attempted to negotiate the divide between Federalists and Anti-Federalists to define the powers of the US federal and state governments. The conflict resulted in a bicameral legislature and the Bill of Rights, but failed to protect or acknowledge rights of enslaved people.
Jacksonian Democracy had a bad effect on American society. Due to Jackson, America expanded out west and Native Americans were sent on torturous trails to be removed. Even with differing views, the two opposing political parties did not agree with Jackson. The whig party was formed to promote a stronger federal government. He helped those who were white and biased towards him and placed them in government to benefit him.
In the North economically people began to find more jobs in factories since it became more industrial. Politically people started to become more against the need for slavery since they didn't rely on them. Socially people became more abolitionists.
In the South economically they began to rely on slaves even more since the cotton gin allowed for more production of cotton. Socially they became more reliant on slaves and tried to justify the need for them. Politically they were for slaves and criticized people who condemned them.
