although puritans left England as a result of religious persecution, they in turn created a system of theocratic oppression in the New England colonies
The New England colonies were not on land that was farmable so they resorted to an industrial economy for timber. The middle colonies relied on farming while the southern colonies depended on cash crops. The North was republican, and democratic in today's time, and the South was democratic, and republican by today's standards.
