Westward Expansion (jan 1, 1848 – jan 1, 1877)
Description:
Even though the allure of the west brought diverse groups together seeking economic and social freedom, ultimately wealthy white Americans benefited from these opportunities at the expense of other groups.
While there were many political differences between the North and the South that contributed to the American Civil War, the main cause of the war was slavery. Some other reasons were state expansion and westward expansion.
