Description:
Cullen, while still having a reputation for writing poems, began to gradually slip off the charts. Poems that he wrote such as "The Black Christ and other poems" and eventually completely dropped when he began writing a novel called "One way to Heaven".
Cullen had also declined many requests from colleges to become a professor. His reasons were unknown.
During this time, Cullen took the time to write many childrens books which is an area not many African Americans went towards.
