New Nation’s Growing Pains (jun 24, 1783 – nov 13, 1800)

Description:

The process of creating the founding documents was defined by compromise as the founders attempted to negotiate the divide between Federalists and Anti-Federalists to define the powers of the US federal and state governments. The conflict resulted in a bicameral legislature and the Bill of Rights, but failed to protect or acknowledge rights of enslaved people.

Northern subsistence farmers became laborers of markets and bosses. The market revolution sparked explosive economic growth and new personal wealth. The market revolution affected the South because the Southern planters abandoned all other crops in favor of cotton, leading to an enormous increase of slave labor, as slaves were necessary for effective cotton production.
