European Contact in America (jan 13, 1491 – jan 5, 1607)

Description:

Indigenous peoples developed complex societies and methods of interacting with the environment around them. These systems were disrupted and in some cases destroyed by European colonizers, whose arrival and establishment of the Columbian Exchange altered both American and European society. However, indigenous groups resisted colonization efforts, which in some cases successfully led to accommodation of indigenous culture by colonizers.

When the English came to the North Americas they built thriving colonies and were on good terms with the natives. They even had a bartering system with them. Relations between natives and the English worsened because they brung diseases to the natives and natives had no cure. When the Spanish came to North America they just wanted to assimilate the natives. They wanted to convert them to Christianity and attempted to integrate with them.
