DeWitt Clinton High School (jul 19, 1918 – jun 25, 1921)

Description:

Cullen was considered an Amazing student during High School. DeWitt Clinton High School was a predominantly and almost exclusively white school for boys in Manhattan. He quickly grew a reputation as a skilled writer and became a member of the Arista honor society. He edited for the school newspaper "Clinton News" and helped edit the literary magazine called Magpie as an associate editor in 1921. Due to this, Cullen's poems turned up frequenctly in the newspapers. This earned him the Magpie cup. This is what led Cullen to create the poetry he's known for today.

Cullen during this time was also vice president of the senior class.
