The Townshend Acts (jun 15, 1767 – jul 2, 1767)

Description:

The Townshend Acts were four acts passed by the British monarchy in June-July 1767 that imposed taxes on goods imported into the American colonies. Goods used often by colonists, such as china, glass, lead, paint, paper, and tea, were taxed because they would result in the most revenue and leave colonists dependent on the British monarchy. British troops came to the colonies to enforce the Townshend Acts, resulting in heightened tension between Britain and America.
