Rule of vassal King Herod (jan 1, 37 BC – jan 1, 6 BC)
Description:
The Romans give Herod, an Edmonite hailed as the "King of the Jews," rule over the territories of the Maccabean kingdom. Since he collects taxes from such a vast region (yet has no political or military power), he focuses his efforts on construction projects, including the creation of the port city of Caesara Maritima, Masada, and the Temple Mount in Jerusalem. King Herod dies soon after his rule in 4 BCE.
