Siege/Second battle of Savannah (sep 16, 1779 – oct 18, 1779)
Description:
A Franco-American effort to retake Savannah from the British who had taken it the year before. One of the bloodiest battles. Ended in the British keeping the city. The main leaders in the siege were Benjamin Lincoln (American), Comte d'Estaing (French), Augustin Prevost (British), John Maitland (British), and Casmir Pulaski (Polish for the Americans). After Pulaski led an attack and died the siege was abandoned. Many slaves and free people of color took part in this battle.
