The Archaic Period (jan 1, 800 BC – jan 1, 480 BC)
Description:
Marked by the departure from large nations of the ancient era, mainland Greece hosted a number smaller independent city states, such as Athens, Corinth, and Sparta, whom all had their city surrounded by a wall, and the surrounding countryside under their direct control.
During this time the city states would engage in conflict with one another and often times the most powerful ones would influence other city states into thier spheres of influence in order to reign as the dominant power of Greece
