Description:
- (1578 - 1657) English physician
- Published Anatomical Exercises on the Motion of the Heart and Blood in Animals, 1628
- Concluded that the heart does not continually produce new blood but rather circulates it (the heart = a pump)
- Direct observation of nature/hands on dissection
- Latromechanism/Latrophysics was a new framework based on measurement, mathematics, and the laws of physics
- Saw the human body as a machine— if you understand how the machine (aka the body) works, then you can understand health and disease
- Treatment = repairing a mechanical problem
- *did not drastically change how the doctor acted along the bedside
