3rd C BCE Alexandria (jan 1, 301 BC – jan 1, 463)
Description:
Systematic human dissection practice first began in Alexandria, evolving from the use of animals. A lot of the ancient science in Egypt, especially Alexandria, focused on the art of embalmment and mummification which led to physicians such as Herophilius of Chalcedon to become the first to dissect and analyze the human body. We began this course by talking about Alexandria because human dissections became the major segue into medicine, disease and discovery of the human body.
