Description:
Wisconsin senator Joseph McCarthy was the man that gave this period of time it's name. This time period produced a series of investigations and hearings during the early 50's to try to expose communism in the United States. McCarthy turned people against communism and he really rose to power in 1950. McCarthyism hit it's decline in 1954 while the "McCarthy hearings" were going on for 30 days. People began to question McCarthy and his principles and his fame declined greatly along with McCarthyism.Added to timeline:
