Mali Empire (jan 1, 1235 – jan 1, 1610)
Description:
Established by King Sundiata Keita, known as the “Lion King,” the Mali Empire brought wealth, culture (language, laws, customs), and the Islamic faith to West Africa. Mansa Musa inherited a kingdom that was already wealthy, but his work in expanding trade made Mali the wealthiest kingdom in Africa. His riches came from mining significant salt and gold deposits in the Mali kingdom along with elephant ivory.
