Siege of Port Hudson (may 21, 1863 – jul 9, 1863)
Description:
Eight African American regiments take part in the Battle of Port Hudson, which was the final engagement with the Union by the Confederacy in an attempt to recapture the Mississippi River. The Confederacy wanted to keep using the river to transport needed supplies, whereas the Union wanted to stop this supply route and drive a wedge that would divide Rebel states and territories.
