Potsdam Conference - Teresa (jul 17, 1945 – nov 19, 1945)
Description:
After Germany surrendered in WW2, the USA, UK, and USSR met in Potsdam, occupied Germany, to determine how to move forward with Germany and Europe in the post war world. At the end of the conference all three countries agreed to weaken Germany's military and split its territory among themselves. However, this decision was not made without conflict, because the USA and UK had opposing views with the USSR on how they should rule. The USA and UK strongly believed in freedom for European countries through democracy and capitalism where as the USSR wanted communism. This conflict at the conference lead to paranoia between the countries. Both sides believed that their opponent wanted to weaken them and become a world superpower. This lead to the underlying conflict which resulted in the Cold War.
