Invasion of Cambodia (feb 1, 1970 – aug 1, 1988)

Description:

The Cambodian campaign was a brief series of military operations undertaken in eastern Cambodia by South Vietnam and the United States in 1970. It was a continuation of the Vietnam War and the civil war in Cambodia. Between April 29 and July 22, 1970, the Army of the Republic of Vietnam (ARVN) launched thirteen key operations.

Cambodia's neutrality and military weakness allowed its territory a safe haven for PAVN/VC forces to construct bases for cross-border operations. With the United States pivoting towards a Vietnamization policy, it intended to strengthen the South Vietnamese government by eliminating the cross-border danger.

When Prince Norodom Sihanouk was overthrown and replaced by pro-American forces in 1970, the opportunity to demolish the bases arose. South Vietnamese-Khmer Republic forces seized several towns, but the PAVN/VC military and political leadership narrowly avoided the siege.
