Skirmish at Tugaloo River (jul 1, 1781 – jul 31, 1781)
Description:
Three companies under the command of Col. Robert Anderson (Upper Ninety Six District Regiment of Militia) marched against the Cherokees on the Tugaloo River. On this march they took "one white man prisoner." They were not strong enough to attack the Cherokee town, so they destroyed what they could and then returned. The location is the site of a previous battle at the Cherokee Town of Tugaloo in 1776 which shows the general area where the skirmish may have occured.
