Skirmish near Ninety-Six (may 21, 1781 – jun 18, 1781)

Description:

Major General Nathanael Greene was marching his army to Ninety Six, he sent Lt. Col. William Washington with his cavalry and the Delaware Light Infantry to eliminate any Loyalist militia in route. Lt. Col. Washington learned of a party of Loyalists under the command of Major William Young and he moved to attack their camp. The Loyalist abandoned the camp hiding in the swamps. Washington's cavalry rode off in search of the Lolalist. The Loyalist then attacked the Delawre Light Infantry. Washington hear the firing, returned and pursued the mounted Loyalist killing four, capturing six dispersing the rest.
