Siege of Fort Motte (may 7, 1781 – may 12, 1781)

Description:

Fort Motte importance was that it served as a supply depot for British supplies from occupied Charles Town to Camden and Ninety Six. It was a prime target for the Patriot Continental Army and the South Carolina Militia. 7-12 May, 1781, Brigadier General Francis Marion and Lt. Col. Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee (VA) lay siege to the fort and on May 12th set the outpost on fire and forcing the British garrison to flee back to Charles Town.
