British seige of Charles Town begans (mar 29, 1780 – may 12, 1780)
Description:
The British launched its Southern strategy by beginning a siege of Charles Town, South Carolina on March 28th. The siege lasted until May 9th when British artillery fire was close enough to set the town on fire and force a surrender soon thereafter, on May 12th. A perception continued among the British that the South was full of Loyalists just awaiting the call from the British, who were now here.
