Skirmish at Fort Johnson (Ashley River) (mar 2, 1780 – mar 2, 1780)

Description:

On 26 Feb, British Gen Clinton seized Fort Johnson and were fired on by the USS Ranger and Providence. The next day the USS Boston, Ranger and SC Navy frigate Bricole fired on Fort Johnson. Feb 27, British supply ships arrived with troops, supplies, and horses. Feb 28, The USS Boston and Ranger fired on the fort killing one Hessian gunner. On March 2, the Providence, Boston, Ranger, Bricole, and Notre Dame along with several other galleys again fired on the fort with no effect. When the first of the British schooners arrived on the Charles Town Bar, the Patriot fleet stopped shelling Fort Johnson.
