Siege of Ninety Six (Siege of Savage's Old Fields) (nov 19, 1775 – nov 21, 1775)
Description:
Patriots under Maj. Andrew Williamson's militia and Maj James Mayson with seven companies of SC Rangers established a fort on the plantation of Loyalist John Savagenear Ninrty Six. Loyalists under Maj. Joseph Robinson, besieged the fort from 19-21 Nov when a quasi truce was signed and withdrawal of both units from Ninety-Six. James Birmingham of South Carolina is believed to be the first Southerner to die for the Patriot cause.
