In 1948, Britain’s Labour Party Government moved Britain towards modern liberalism through the creation of the National Insurance Act, the National Assistance Act, and the National Health Service Act. The policies of the British collectivist Labour Party and the individualist Conservative Party governments during this period created and retained programs that formed the British welfare state. Similarly, many Western democracies followed this through the significant public-funding of social programs such as employment insurance, pension, child care, and universal healthcare.
