Workshop 71 (jul 9, 1971 – aug 6, 1971)
Description:
Initiated by Donald Michaelis and under the direction of the Associate Managers, RDT’s first Summer Workshop ’71 was held for six weeks from the end of June through August 7th. The program offered 5-6 hours per day of classes, Saturday seminars, dance films, and lectures, and a lecture-demonstration on dance history. Virginia Tanner, Doris Hering (critic, Dance Magazine,) and Viola Farber gave public lectures. Stanley Sussman (from Martha Graham’s studio) was accompanist and guest music teacher.
The emphasis of the workshop was on performance, culminating in student performances of company-choreographed works. One hundred and fifty students selected from 200 applicants from 28 states and Canada attended the workshop.
