French and Indian War (7 Years' War) (jan 1, 1754 – jan 1, 1763)
Description:
Also called the 7 Years' War and a few other names; fighting begins in the colonies and spreads to Europe because the French build chain of forts in the Ohio River Valley in order to halt westward British expansion and for land speculation; a small British militia led by George Washington is sent to stop the French; French and Indian vs. British; British eventually win; when they win, they get French Canada and Spanish Florida; the war creates tension between the British colonists and Britain
