Proto-Gnosticism begins? (jan 1, 50 – dec 31, 59)

Description:

The origins of Gnosticism are obscure. There are indicators in the early manuscript evidence that proto/pre-gnostic ideas originate with and will eventually bud off from Jewish Christianity.
The first "proto-Gnostic" content identifiable in this context would be some of Paul's own writing, but various elements of the gnostic worldview are strewn throughout writings of the New Testament canon and other works adjacent to them. Both the gnostic and orthodox sects of the second century could claim scriptural support from the writings that predated them. The proto-gnostic kernels scattered throughout these works range from gnostic-adjacent “buzzwords”, to very gnostic-amenable claims/theological constructions (secret spiritual knowledge reserved for a spiritual elite), to startling offhand remarks that demonstrate how interwoven gnostic ideas (and adherents) could be with their proto-orthodox counterparts at this early stage.
