First cells seen in cork (jan 1, 1665 – jan 1, 1666)

Description:

Robert Hooke found the first cell and gave it a name. He compared the scene to the cramped monks' cells, or cellula, which is Latin for "tiny compartment." The name therefore came from cellula.
