A.J. White, Mother Seigel's Syrup (jan 1, 1850 – jan 1, 1913)

Description:

Mother Seigel's Syrup, or The Shaker Extract of Roots, was distributed by A.J. White, whose name the bottle bears. The Shakers at Mount Lebanon grew and harvested plants to bottle their extracts. This bottle likely dates to the illness of Katey and Joanna, as it claims to cure dyspepsia (indigestion), blood impurities, and “diseases of the liver and bowels, diseases of the stomach, rheumatism, heart disease and skin ailments.”

The complete bottle was recovered in the excavation which will be used in the exhibit.
