-Cuban forces support left-wing rebel group MPLA (against South African forces supported by USA)-(1970s-80s) nicknamed "Cuba's Vietnam" as Cuban forces became bogged down in war as USA had in Vietnam War
-ceasefire agreed 22nd June 1989, but soon broke down
-MPLA victory by 1992
