Hundred Years' War (may 24, 1337 – oct 19, 1453)

Description:

After the King of France dies without a male heir, the King of England makes a claim to the throne of France through his mother, the sister of the late King. France denies his claim as his claim is through a female relative and they do not want a foreign King. This boils over long-standing political problems between the two countries and leads to a series of wars lasting over 100 years for domination of France. France is the victor. The war is credited with birthing the concepts of English and French nationalism.
