Nuclear Model (Rutherford) (jan 1, 1909 – jan 1, 1911)
Description:
It was during this time period that a New Zealander by the name of Ernes Rutherford would fir a beam of positive alpha particles at gold foil. Most went through the foil but an amazing discovery was made when some bounced back. This in turn caused the nuclear model, in which most mass is contained in a tiny positive nucleus and surrounded by a large amount of empty space and electrons.
The technology used to discover this is within the experiment, this was just decided to be put into action one day and is why we know what we know today. This changed a lot from the last design as previous designs didn't include a nucleus and considered the atom to be full of protons and electrons and didn't consider the empty space contained within.
This model affected our understanding of the aotm deeply as previously we had no idea of the empty space contained within the atom.
