PEEL (sep 1, 1841 – jul 1, 1846)
Description:
Produced a number of reforms in financial and economic policy and in social policy. These boosted his reputation with the middle-class interests of the country. Weren't supported by many in the party - by 1846, there was a revolt against him (especially when he tried to repeal the Corn Laws).
- reduced maufacturing costs
- encouraged British exports
- ensured businessmen could take confidence from the fact they were dealing in sound based paper money
- reduced indirrect taxes so that ordinary people had more to seond on manufctuted and other goods
- balanced the government's books
- prepared tyo offer government interevention where necessary
