HENRY III (jan 2, 1216 – jan 1, 1272)

Description:

- 1216: Louis I, king of France, invaded England and took over the Crown from John. The Church was against him, so they elected Henry III.

Henry was only 9 years old.
- Regent: Earl of Pembroke.
- Sense of patriotism. The French were seen as foreigners after Louis went back to France.
- Revolt against Eleanor, who controlled the king and made him fund French military operations.
- 1264: Was captured during the rebellion of barons (civil war) led by Simon de Montfort and was forced to set up a ‘Parliament’ at Westminster, the start of the House of Commons.
