- Mexico was angry with the annexation of Texas and US wanted to expand the nation to the Pacific Ocean- US won and signed Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which:
- Mexico recognized the Rio Grande as southern border of Texas
- US took possession of former Mexican provinces of California and New Mexico
